Ferns

We're a member of the British Pteridological (Fern) Society and they hold a special place at Bide-A-Wee.

As well as having numerous cultivars throughout the garden, will also sell ferns such as Dryopteris, Athyrium, Polystichiums, Osmuda and Dicksonia.

We grow and nuture a number of our Ferns from spores.

The Ferns grow from tiny spores made by adult plants on the undersides of their leaves.

When a spore lands in a damp place, it grows into a very small, flat plant.

With enough moisture, this stage allows a new young fern to begin forming. The young fern then grows into the large leafy plant we recognize, completing the cycle.
