Mark has extensive experience in the restoration of historic landscapes and buildings, project managing a number of Heritage Lottery Funded schemes, and has a depth of knowledge in traditional building techniques with a passion for natural stone. He has a strong interest in combining these traditional techniques within contemporary design.
Managing a Successful Garden Project
Fundamental to the long term success of a landscape project is an understanding of how it will be managed. Mark is able to draw on a wealth of experience from creating and managing his own 3 acre garden and apply's this to all his projects. He brings this simple, logical design process to your project:
An initial consultation, which normally lasts for about an hour, will provide an opportunity to meet and discuss your garden and requirements. Following this meeting Mark will write to you with an outline of what has been discussed, regarding the design for your garden, this will form the basis of the brief and a free quotation.
Site Survey and Assessment
Essential to the design process is the site survey and analysis. This will take the form of a detailed topographical survey as well as establishing constraints to the site, vegetation, soil surveys etc. All information that is required to design and produce accurate, scaled drawings for your garden will be collected.
Concept Design and Mood Board
From the information gathered during our meeting, and the site survey & analysis. A concept plan of your garden will be created. Mark will visit you to present and discuss the proposed design. Following this discussion a scaled design layout plan will be produced with details such as hard landscaping, planted areas and new features.
A scaled, colour rendered and detailed plan of the garden, will help illustrate the proposed design. This plan will provide the context to the detailed drawings, and the road map for a phased development of a larger project.
Detailed Design and Construction
Detailed Layout Plan
A measurement drawing to set out the design on site either by Mark's own team or your own contractor.
Planting plans can be produced for existing areas or as part of a proposed scheme. Planting plans specify Latin names, sizes and quantities. Bide-a-Wee Nursery can also provide the plant material.
Scaled construction drawings allow the tradesmen to construct the garden, including any bespoke features in the design.
Mark can undertake the construction of your garden, or alternatively supervise the build of your garden, undertaking the tendering process, working with the contractors and conducting regular site visits during the build.
Bide-a-Wee offer a garden maintenance service where we make regular visits, for the first few years in order to ensure that the garden is maturing as planned, and carry out any maintenance that is needed. This service provides some clients peace of mind after the initial investment in having their garden designed.
